Even in James Cameron's third "Avatar" film, several characters lose their lives. Warning, spoilers!
The battle for Pandora initially seemed won after the first film, but the RDA returned in "Avatar: The Way of Water" – stronger than ever. Now, the goal is no longer simply mining Unobtanium; instead, humanity aims to conquer all of Pandora. And even though the Na'vi, under the command of Jake Sully, repeatedly win battles, the war is far from over.
"The Way of Water" ended with another small victory, but not without casualties. Neteyam, the eldest son of Neytiri and Jake Sully, lost his life fighting the RDA. This heavy loss still plays a significant role in "Avatar: Fire and Ash," but several other familiar characters also meet their demise in the next chapter of the science fiction saga.
Three Deaths and an Honorary Na'vi
Fortunately, the Sully family is spared this time, but the family of Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina, is hit particularly hard. Shortly after giving birth, Ronal dies from injuries sustained in battle, leaving Neytiri to raise her child. In addition, Rotxo, the best friend of Tonowari's son Aonung, also loses his life fighting the RDA and the Ash People. On the opposing side, Captain Mick Scoresby meets his end. After already losing his arm in "The Way of Water," the Tulkun hunter now loses his life.
However, the two main villains of the film, Quaritch and Varang, survive and can now plan their next attack on the Sullys together. At least: Thanks to their connection to Eywa, the Na'vi are still able to see the deceased again. And even Spider, who is adapting more and more to the living conditions on Pandora thanks to Eywa, has now been accepted as one of their own by both the living and the deceased Na'vi. Whether Spider will gradually transform completely into a Na'vi remains to be seen – if the story of "Avatar" continues.
